This is a question one of my readers asked.

Hi again. Acim and people like Gary Renard keep saying we chose our script before we dreamed all of this and I was wondering why any dream figure would choose a hard, pain and suffering filled life instead of all of us dreaming this as perfect people with perfect situations. Thank you.

Hi, Dan,

Good question. Since we are perfectly whole as Spirit, why, indeed would we dream up an illusion filled with pain and suffering? The Course says only the ego could ask this question, because only the ego believes the dream is real. When we accept our Identity as the holy Son of God, this question disappears. We know we are not here. There is no need for any dream, either a pleasure-filled one, or a painful one. Reality is the only thing that is worthy of the Son of God. Reality is pure Love, without opposite.

The ego script is the dream. It has many different forms to keep us believing there is a world out there that is attacking us. The dream is one of separation and opposing, competing forces. A dream in which we temporarily win or get what we want provides momentary pleasure, only to be stripped away by inevitable pain. The Course reminds us that both pleasure and pain keep us stuck in the illusion, because as we believe in either one of them, we are giving reality to something that is not there.

Remember, the world is not outside of you. It is in your mind. The world of suffering is a projection from the fear-based mind. The world seen with the Holy Spirit is still an illusion, but it is seen for the illusion it is. You know you are the dreamer. This is what ACIM calls “the happy dream.” The happy dream is not where you get everything you want, but where you know this world holds nothing that you want, and that you’re making it up. The mind that forgives the illusion of the world is at peace and is happy.

Blessings,

Lorri

["The world you see depicts exactly what you thought you did. Except now you think that what you did is being done to you."] yes, so true!!! At reading it today it made me 'feel' it.

Thanks so much! XX

"Except now you think that what you did is being done to you." So true...

Hi, Patri, That's a good question, on whether there's a Course quote that says we chose the script before we came in. I'd refer to the quote on the tiny mad idea. "Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny, mad idea, at which the Son of God remembered not to laugh. In his forgetting did the thought become a serious idea, and possible of both accomplishment and real effects." T-27.VIII.6:2-3

It seems like our belief that the tiny mad idea was accomplished and had real effects, when in truth it didn't, is the script we made. We had the thought, and then made the world of fear. "The world you see depicts exactly what you thought you did. Except now you think that what you did is being done to you." T-27.VIII.7:2-3

Thanks for asking this question. It brought me clarification as well.

Hi, Christy, Your experience has been mine as well. It's once I forgive the illusion that I can actually enjoy it and be in peace more consistently. When I thought it was real, I hated it.

Amazing Lorri - LOVE IT!

Would you or anyone know where in the book is there a quote/s on this particual topic? (on choosing the script 'before the dream'). Or a quote by G Renard...

Again, great post!!!

I really appreciate this. I have lately had several friends with whom I have a "spiritual" connection who have been pressing this issue with me in different ways. Of course, I know that means I am bringing this question to myself, so I am listening for guidance.

Usually, they are concerned that my seeing the world as an illusion created by the ego means that I don't see the beauty here, or that I don't understand the "art of manifesting", or am denying my own specialness. What I'm realizing is that, for me, seeing the illusion and calling it what it is and forgiving it, leads to a happiness that is constant. If I skip the first part (seeing it and forgiving it), I am still operating in the up and down back and forth of duality- and trying to control that with my thoughts. That's just too hard :)

Thank you for your words-
