About the disturbing images, my two cents: the first, that The Spirit IS ABLE to disociate from the body when needed. I was recently reading Ingrid Betancourt's account of her rape in the Colombian jungle "they were doing violence to my body, I was in a tunnel elsewhere" was the way she put it... and second, that the Crucifiction of Jesus is the ultimate demonstration of this capacity, and resurrection the proof that it was nothing. So when He was able to forgive right then -"Father etc." we can also look to this forgivance, and most importantly, to the Resurrection. The Resurrection is really the key.

I ramble. But this is an issue that follows me too, in the violence done to women, and so it resonates. Hope this somehow helps you. let me know if you have something that may help me... peace hermanito.
