What Does *blank* Mean!? Help Interpret ACIM Here!

I thought it would be good to have a space dedicated to asking what ACIM means in the parts we find more difficult to grasp (we all probably know some of the sentencing can be quite difficult to understand, for example: “the cause a cause is made by its effects” (T-28.II.1;2), etc, you get the idea..)

I'll start:

What is your interpretation of this:

"An individual may ask for physical healing because he is fearful of bodily harm. At the same time, if he were healed physically, the threat to his thought system might be considerably more fearful to him than its physical expression. In this case he is not really asking for release from fear, but for the removal of a symptom that he himself selected." (pg. 164)

*I'm looking for a 'literal' translation; not the metaphysical meaning. Basically, I'm not after the concept but the mathematical proposition/s if that makes any sense.

Thanks!!

Patri:

Can someone clarify the following:

1) In the question "Who, then, is your own"; who is 'who' referring to? and what is "your own" also referring to exactly?

2) In the sentence "Guard them in their resurrection", who/what is them?

THANKS!!! :) XX

Eric: This is what I find amazing about ACIM. No matter how many times I have read it or listened to it, there are always passages that seem new to me when presented by other people.

I was just quickly reading around that chapter/section and I'll throw in my two cents, though I don't know if it will clarify anything, LOL.

The first question in the context of this section's relationship to the preceding sections almost seems to be a question to bring choice into the reader's awareness. It states God's Son is His own, then asks who is your own? It seems the answer to this question depends. If siding with the ego, then the who that is my own is the who (self-concept) that I made, from the god that I made in the reversal of cause and effect. It is a "who" that believes it has a private mind that makes private thoughts in a private world.

The statement says that God accepts us without question as His Own and given all that is His and He Himself is mine/yours with them.  In identifying with Christ, then who is my/your own? It would seem I would accept God without question as my own Cause, and in this acceptance, the "who" who is my own (not in ownership, but in Being) is the Son of God (Self) aka The SonShip that I share with all my brothers (them).

In T-11, IV. 1. it states, "Never forget that the Sonship is your salvation, for the Sonship is your Self. As God's creation, It is yours, and belonging to you, It is His."

Just above the preceding passahe that the course states that we cannot enter God's presence alone. All of our brothers must come with us, for all our brothers is the Sonship.

Though the course makes statements that salvation cannot be found alone, just as we cannot see the Holy Spirit in ourselves alone, there are a couple of explicit statements about brothers and salvation, such as:

"God's Will is your salvation. Would He not have given you the means to find it? If He wills you to have it, He must have made it possible and very easy to obtain it. Your brothers are everywhere. You do not have to seek far for salvation." T-9 VI. Original Edition

Yet when identified with the ego the course states, " In sleep you are alone, and your awareness is narrowed to yourself. And that is why the nightmares come. You dream of isolation because your eyes are closed. You do not see your brothers, and in the darkness you cannot look upon the light you gave to them." T-12, VI. Original Edition

That being said, it seems that the "them" in the context of this passage along with previous passages is your/our brothers. To guard them in their resurrection could be another way of saying, do not condemn your/our brothers, for then we condemn the Son of God, which essentially condmemns the resurrection/salvation.

ok, i've got one:

T-11.VI.6. Resurrection must compel your allegiance gladly, because it is the symbol of joy. 2 Its whole compelling power lies in the fact that it represents what you want to be. 3 The freedom to leave behind everything that hurts you and humbles you and frightens you cannot be thrust upon you, but it can be offered you through the grace of God. 4 And you can accept it by His grace, for God is gracious to His Son, accepting him without question as His Own. 5 Who, then, is your own? 6 The Father has given you all that is His, and He Himself is yours with them. 7 Guard them in their resurrection, for otherwise you will not awake in God, safely surrounded by what is yours forever.

Can someone clarify the following:

1) In the question "Who, then, is your own"; who is 'who' referring to? and what is "your own" also referring to exactly?

2) In the sentence "Guard them in their resurrection", who/what is them?

**Regarding Eddie's question we exchanged messages and this passage from the Bible was mentioned, which I thought was quite relevant:

John 8:12 (New International Version)

"12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”"

“I am the light of the world.”

I am stuck on this one

Corinne - that is music to my ears! What a beautiful passage!

Thank you so much!! :) XX

I interpret that literally - it is referring to the other "broken fragments of the sonship" (our other "brothers") who have not yet been born into this world (they're not yet in a body).  They'll hear the call we heard when they are ready to start listening to the Voice of the Holy Spirit again instead of the ego

Can someone help me with this bit of text from Lesson 98? (I will accept my part in God's plan for salvation

"While those as yet unborn will hear the call we heard, and answer it when they have come to make their choice again."

(Just to place you within context it comes from: They will be with us; all who took the stand we take today will gladly offer us all that they learned and every gain they made. Those still uncertain, too, will join with us, and, borrowing our certainty, will make it stronger still. While those as yet unborn will hear the call we heard, and answer it when they have come to make their choice again. We do not choose but for ourselves today.)

Thanks!! :) X

Funny enough Suzanne I have written a post on that very one.

I came across Michael Teachings' and realised that what they said about the levels of self married perfectly well what ACIM says about "our creations"; which had me thinking at the time as I couldn't quite put my finger on what it meant exactly.

As far as I understood, God created us like Himself and we also create like God creates... but what exactly do we create? I was not satisfied with the answers of 'creating the illusion' or 'creating the ego' etc

When I read what the Michael Teachings' said I just had a 'knowing' feeling; it punched me in the gut straight away and I knew this is what we were creating.

Here's the post I wrote (G+):

******

We are vast and multifaceted, and there are many ways of describing our various parts. However, the Michael teachings (see here:http://www.michaelteachings.com)  outline three basic levels of self: personality, essence (or soul), and spark.

Our personality is our outermost level; it is who we are for this lifetime only. It is a composite of physical, mental, and emotional traits and is influenced by factors such as overleaves, body type, heredity, imprinting, numerology, astrology, and many others. Our personality develops from what we learn in this lifetime.

Our essence animates our personality, providing our spiritual component. It is the part of us that continues from lifetime to lifetime on the physical plane, as well as through the six higher planes of creation in the universe. It is influenced by factors such as role, cadence position, entity, frequency, male/female energy ratio, and many others. Our essence develops from what we learn in all our earth lifetimes and our periods between lifetimes, the “astral interval.” When our personality integrates lessons from our present lifetime, they become part of our essence’s knowledge.

Our spark animates our essence. It is our core, the part of us that is a unit of consciousness of the Tao, which is also referred to as the “All That Is” or the “Ground of All Being.” The Tao is what is beyond the universe, the source from which the universe springs. Thus far, the Michael teachings don’t delineate traits on the spark’s level as they do with the personality overleaves and essence roles. Our spark develops from what we learn in all our experiences in the universe. When our essence integrates the experiences of our series of earth lifetimes, as well as our higher-plane experiences, they become part of our spark’s knowledge.

Our spark created our essence to enable us to express ourselves in the universe. Our essence, in turn, created our personality to enable us to express ourselves specifically on the physical plane. When a spark creates an essence, Michael refers to that as “casting“ from the Tao (my note: separation from Source )

>> I love this because it's easy to see how we ARE CREATORS ourselves of our selves.

Thanks Christy and Marc:)

C'mon guys! - open your books, looks for those 'bits' with question marks next to them and type them here so we can all help each other clarify the meaning...

Patri- I'm so happy to hear how excited you are about prayer. Thank you for sharing your joy-

"I think the most important thing is to learn that we have no idea whatsoever what will make us happy." exactly! This is the problem and what can make it a 'complex' thing. The idea is to find out each and every time so we can get it 'spot on'.

Then prayer will be fast and proper communication (communion in fact).

I LOVE 'Song of Prayer' and can never get enough of it.

As it happens I've come across the 2 of the prayers in the past (love them!). But can you believe it? I stumbled upon Nouk's yesterday for the first time! There you go, one more 'coincidence' : ) : )

They are all beautiful and perfect.

My idea is a little more 'laser-focused'. I've been helping some people lately finding their 'true needs' and then devising prayers for them. This is something that just feels 100% right with me and it gives me joy; I just know I'm meant to do it.

In order for these people to succeed with prayer they need to know exactly what their need is and how to pray 'properly' (without outlining the outcome, etc).

I'm determined to make a science out of it for I think spirituality and science are forever meeting at junctions missing each other by one split of a second!

Thank you Suzanne and much love :)
