A great question you ask! We do this by bringing our thoughts, our feelings, and our beliefs about the painful parts of our lives (actually ALL parts of our lives), TO the Holy Spirit (our Inner Teacher). The Course is asking us to look at EVERY belief that we hold WITH the Holy Spirit, so what is false can be translated into Truth. So as we bring our perceptions to the Holy Spirit, we get back the EXPERIENCE of God's Love, as we are ready to experience it. We get glimpses of Truth that teach us who we really are. ♥♥
I hope that helps!! :)

Permalink Reply by David Justice Love Absolution on October 22, 2012 at 2:55am Corrine can you explain a bit further as it is still very abstract to me I am reading the course but have trouble sometimes with its abstract phrases as in bringing things to the holy spirit how do we do this and how do we tell when it is answering us? Thank you so much this is for anyone who can answer that happens to see this that is highly experienced thanks
Permalink Reply by Corinne Zupko on October 22, 2012 at 10:17pm Hi David! I'm happy to explain more. :) Bringing things to the Holy Spirit means that we don't hide or ignore or deny what we are feeling or thinking. We acknowledge it, and we offer it to our Higher Power (in Course terms, the "Holy Spirit") to take it from us, and we get back a shift in perception (a "miracle") instead. By "offering it," I mean that rather than trying to figure out how to fix things or deal with things alone, we place the thought or feeling into the Holy Spirit's "arms" (so to speak), and we don't worry about it anymore. Does that help? Let me know! ♥ I'd love to hear how others would explain this too :)

there is no world out there. This includes all the pain, whatsoever. Cheers!
Permalink Reply by Eric G on October 24, 2012 at 7:15am David: how do we remove the painful parts of our lives to reveal the life we deserve and love?
Eric: in short, we don't. The course tells us that healing is our function, but correction is not. Meaning we cannot correct ourselves. The course tells us that we cannot make arrogant preperations for the Holy Spirit and trying to remove our own pain is an attempt to usurp His function.
How do you do it? I can only tell you how I try to do it, because sometimes it is easier said than done. It takes self honesty, trust, and willingness. Something I falter in quite often, LOL. It takes self honesty in the fact that I try and bring every unloving thought that is in my conscious awareness at that point in time to the Holy Spirit, without trying to hide or withold certain thoughts. This obviously takes willingness, yet it also takes trust that I will be given the answer. The hard part (for me) is trying to come to the Holy Spirit without my own answer and essentially trying to get my inner teacher to validate the answer that I want. There is a short prayer in the course that can help with this:
I am not alone, and I would not intrude the past upon my Guest. I have invited Him, and He is here. I need do nothing except not to interfere.
We are told that our sole responsibility is to accept the Atonement for ourselves, because the Atonement IS healing and we cannot find salvation (heal) alone. We must offer it to our brothers.
The course continually speaks of ideas. You are an idea(Thought of God) I am an idea (Thought of God). The course says the Holy Spirit is an idea of healing. The course also says as a thought/idea is shared, it is strengthened. I think this is why the course warns us about trying to find the Holy Spirit in ourselves alone and doing so may frighten us. It also tells us that the Holy Spirit cannot be seen, but His manifestations can.
As we accept the Atonement for ourselves, we can then offer healing to our brothers. For we cannot give what we do not have/accept. Accepting the Atonement for oneself isn't simply for us alone and narrowed only to ourself. Healing must be shared. As the course tells us in the section "The Problem of Guilt:
Insleep you are alone, and your awareness is narrowed to yourself. And that is why the nightmares come. You dream of isolation because your eyes are closed. You do not see your brothers, and in the darkness you cannot look upon the light you gave to them.~ACIM
Eric: This kind of reminds me of the quote from Jean-Paul Sartre, when he said hell is other people. Yet, the course also tells us in the section "Correction of Error":
God's Will is your salvation. Would He not have given you the means to find it? If He wills you to have it, He must have made it possible and very easy to obtain it. Your brothers are everywhere. You do not have to seek far for salvation.~ACIM
As course students, we are asked to be miracle workers. While a miracle may induce a shift in our own perception, the course tells us that perception, even in its most spiritual levels involves the body. The course tells that the miracle is an expression of love, not merely an experience of it. The course says it is revelation that is experienced and that miracles induce revelation. While we are asked to bring revelation to others, we cannot bring the actual revelation, because its contents cannot be expressed, but a miracle can.
Quoting from the Original Edition, the course tells us that miracles also induces interpersonal action. I find the word "interpersonal" interesting, because it follows that what the course says about ideas are strengthened as they are shared. We cannot find salvation alone. The Holy Spirit cannot be seen, but His manifestations can (this can be one's own peace of mind, but also seeing a brother truly) and that miracles depend on cooperation, because the Sonship is the sum of all that God Created.
A couple of sections in the course that may be helpful are:
Rules For Decision
The Sane Curriculum
Practicing the Holy Instant
The Holy Instant and the Laws of God
The Holy Instant and the Attraction of God
Finding the Present
The Two Uses of Time
And I always love reading the 50 miracles principles in the UrText, Original Edition, and FIP version. When in doubt, always back to the basics. :-)
I wish you well on your journey (without distance ;-)
Eric

thanks for all your help everyone I am just full of questions so that I might better understand the course my next question is how do we define illusion from reality as it begins by saying everything we see is not real then what is as we move thru life and the world would it go so far as to tell me my buisness I just opened or my music I record with my crew and record label team are unreal too as these are big parts of my life thanks again to any experienced mentor that can help
Yea David, it's all unreal, everything you see here in the world of perception. We set things up to appear as "reality" so that we could prolong our separate existence, hide from God, and have someone else to project our guilt onto. So to answer your question of how do we separate illusion from reality, well, the easiest way is to see that it's all unreal. Everything in the universe.
Seeing that we can even understand that forgiveness is an illusion, and so is the course. The only difference is they lead away from error.
